Mineola High School senior Anthony Raguseo has done a lot for the Mustangs varsity baseball team. He is the team's captain and has the difficult job of catching. But Raguseo also wants to bring something to the baseball field at Mineola High School and that's why he's dedicated his senior project to fundraising to bring dugouts.
"I thought that it would benefit the school and the team so I decided to do it," Raguseo said.
The senior said he met with the board of education and, hopefully, the dugouts can be built in time for this baseball season this spring. The total cost is between $10,000 and $12,000 and Raguseo is trying to raise money to offset the costs.
Currently, there are only benches at the high school baseball field, but the plan calls for half-in, half-out dugouts with three steps down and a shingled roof. "The reason I pursued this was because I get to do something with baseball and I'm going to be majoring in civil engineering so I thought it would be convenient," said Raguseo, who has been the captain of the Mineola baseball team for the past three years.
If anyone is interested in donating to the cause, they can make their checks payable to Mineola High School and send their tax-deductible donation to Mineola High School, 10 Armstrong Road, Garden City Park, NY 11040 and make a notation on the check that it's for "Baseball Dugout Project."
