New York State Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel invites the 16th Assembly District to open their hearts to the annual Valentines for Vets Program. Started by Tom DiNapoli when he served as assemblyman, Valentines for Vets is a district wide effort to show the disabled veterans who have served our country that they are appreciated and have not been forgotten.

Suggested items include handmade valentines, non-slip socks, men's winter hats, gloves, scarves, large print paperback books, note cards, large print crossword puzzles, stamps, patriotic caps or T-shirts, disposable cameras and sweat pants and sweat shirts. We hope to collect a truckload that will be distributed at the New York State Veterans Home in Stony Brook and the Northport VA Medical Center.

What better way to show our appreciation for the sacrifice that our veterans have made for us than to send a valentine or donate an item that veterans can use?

"As member of the Veterans Affairs Committee, I look forward to your participation in making this program an overwhelming success," said Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel.

Please bring new items only to Assemblywoman Schimel's District Office located at 45 North Station Plaza, Suite 203, Great Neck. Questions about the program can be directed to the Project Coordinator Fran Reid, who can be reached at 482-6966.
