The Corpus Christi CYO 5th grade girls put their 10-0 record on the line as they hosted the girls from St. Peter's in Port Washington.
The girls jumped out to a big lead and never looked back as they won 37-18. The girls, coming back from the Christmas break, played their best game of the year. The Lady Lions were led by Charlotte Renker and Sarah Rudolph. Both were in double digits in scoring again. But this was a total team effort as Corpus Christi's defense was relentless. The girls were stepping into the passing lanes and challenging every shot the girls from St. Peter's took.
The boards were controlled by Charlotte Renker, Gabriella Jurksas (2 points), Juhi Goyal (2 points), Corrine Joyce (2 points) and Kelly Behan. The point guards leading the offense were Meaghan Carr Fragiacomo and Sarah Rudolph. The outstanding wing play was by Samantha Santomauro (2 points), Emily Abrams (4 points), Emily Pusey and Susana Miranda.
The girls then took their 11-0 record on the road to complete the home-and-home games with St. Peter's.
After the coaches stated the girls had played their best game of the year the day before, the Lady Lions went out and played even better. They won this game 38-16 as they now prepare for the playoffs. The girls were led by Charlotte Renker, Meaghan Carr Fragiacomo and Sarah Rudolph in the scoring column. This was not the story though as the whole team came ready to play and contested every pass, shot, rebound and loose ball during the game.
Sarah, Meaghan and Susana Miranda ran the point like the true veterans of the court that they are. The low post play was exemplary by Charlotte, Gabriella Jurksas, Corrine Joyce, Juhi Goyal and Kelly Behan. The defense and passing was at its best with Emily Abrams, Samantha Santomauro, and Emily Pusey. The girls were missing a vital cog in the teams operation, as Rebecca Katinas was unavailable for the weekend.
The girls finished the regular season with a New England Patriot like perfect record of 12-0. The excitement is in the air as the girls wait to hear who their playoff opponents are.
