Tonight at Mineola Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, the Mineola Village Board will continue a hearing on a proposal for a nine-story condominium complex, called "The Winston," which is being proposed for the north side of Old Country Road between Willis Avenue and Main Street.

The proposal, being made by Polimeni International, LLC, for the 285 luxury condominium complex, was first introduced at a public hearing on Nov. 28.

The complex is being considered for the area because it can provide tax revenue as well as housing for an area that is considered by some to be underutilized. The cost of the complex is said to be $165 million and provides one and a half parking spaces per unit, which would be provided underneath the units.

Vince Polimeni, owner of Polimeni International, is optimistic of the condominium complex, which will have a doorman, a concierge and health club, becoming a reality.

Polimeni said the complex would bring tax revenue to the village and the school district while keeping with the revitalization of the downtown area. "The revenue will be tremendous. The amount of people spending money downtown would be tremendous because you can walk to restaurants and all these things [people] use right there," he said. "That's what Mineola wants to do - basically come back and revitalize the entire downtown area and to do that, you need pedestrian traffic. People can literally walk to the downtown area and walk to the train station."

In addition, Polimeni has agreed to build another building on Front Street and reserve 40 units for Mineola residents who are 55 or older and donate $1 million to the village to use as the village sees fit, according to Polimeni.

The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. with a board work session scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
