DaVanzo Says Farewell to Village Board
The mood was somber and the room was silent as Mineola Village Attorney John Spellman read the resignation letter submitted by Trustee John DaVanzo at last week's board of trustees meeting. The man who needs only to be referred to as "Mr. Mineola" has decided to step down from his position as a village trustee citing health reasons.

At last week's meeting of the village board of trustees, Mineola Mayor Jack M. Martins announced that petitions would be circulated to submit to Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy asking her to take a stand against the proposed Long Island Rail Road third-track project.

Chiefs Advance in Playoffs
The 10-year-old Maroon Chiefs opened their playoff run by beating Hempstead 20-0 in the first round. It was a dominating performance by the Chiefs on both offense and defense. The Chiefs scored early on a run by Andrew Cunningham on the opening drive of the game.

At the Village of Mineola Board of Trustees meeting last Wednesday, Mayor Jack M. Martins, Deputy Mayor Larry Werther and Trustees Linda Fairgrieve and Paul Cusato honored the 2007 Mineola Athletic Association Major Division girls softball team.
