    The mood was somber and the room was silent as Mineola Village Attorney John Spellman read the resignation letter submitted by Trustee John DaVanzo at last week's board of trustees meeting.     At last week's meeting of the village board of trustees, Mineola Mayor Jack M. Martins announced that petitions would be circulated to submit to Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy asking her to take a stand against the proposed Long Island Rail Road third-track project. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Chiefs Advance in Playoffs

    The 10-year-old Maroon Chiefs opened their playoff run by beating Hempstead 20-0 in the first round. It was a dominating performance by the Chiefs on both offense and defense. The Chiefs scored early on a run by Andrew Cunningham on the opening drive of the game. FULL STORY
