Midfielder Mike Marques of Molloy College was named East Coast Conference Baden Mens Soccer Rookie of the Week on September 24 after leading the Lions to two victories in the previous week. Marques scored a goal and had three assists in victories over New Haven and Holy Family. Mike is a 2007 graduate of Mineola High School where he was a four-year starter for coach Paul Pereira. During his tenure, the Mustangs were a New York State semi-finalist, Long Island champion and currently defending Nassau County Conference ABC-I champions. Marques was also named Mineola High School Male Athlete of the Year in 2007.

Marques, who has played in seven of the Lions first 11 games, is second in the conference in assists (6) and leads in assists per game. Molloy (9-2-1, 3-1-0 ECC) is second in the ECC behind #5 nationally ranked Dowling College (NSCAA Division II Poll).

Under the guidance of first year head coach Danny Longo, Molloy has produced the most victories in one season since 1997 and reversed a 1-6-1 conference finish from last year behind the efforts of Marques and his teammates. Four home games remain for the Lions including tonight at 6 p.m. on the Molloy campus in Rockville Centre. Details can be found at the school website at www.molloy.edu/athletics.
