As one of three Mineola Mustang football alumni currently playing college ball, James Holubowich seeks to finish his collegiate experience on a high note. Holubowich, a member of the Class of 2004 playoff qualifiers, enters his second season as the starting middle linebacker for the Division III Gettysburg College Bullets of the Centennial Conference. Last year, James was named All-Conference Honorable Mention for his role as a key defender in the Bullets 5-5 season.

Holubowich was second on the team (and fifth in the conference) in tackles last year including three sacks and more than seven tackles recorded for a loss. James continues to display the skills finely tuned by Mustang head coach Dan Guido that resulted in multiple double-digit tackle games during the 2006 campaign. As a sophomore, Holubowich appeared in all 10 games for the Bullets.

James will attempt to duplicate his strong level of performance in 2007 after being named to the Centennial Conference Weekly Honor Roll twice last season. The 6 foot, 210-pound Mineola native was an All-County selection during his senior year as a Mustang captain. James was a three-sport high school star participating in wrestling and lacrosse. He was also selected to the Academic All-Conference team and is prominently displayed on the Wall of Honor in the athletic wing of Mineola High School.

So far, Holubowich and the Bullets' season have gotten off to a fast start with a 2-1 record and an unbeaten mark in conference play. In their two victories, they have given up only 35 points with Holubowich once again among the team leaders in tackles. With preseason predictions underestimating the success of Gettysburg, Holubowich and his mates hope to surprise the voters and capture the conference crown. In Holubowich's final season, it would only be fitting to be rewarded for his effort.
