On Saturday, the Mineola Pool opened for another summer season but this time, the pool is sporting a new name. At last Wednesday's work session of the Mineola Board of Trustees, the board voted 4-0 in favor of naming the pool after Trustee John DaVanzo. The pool is now known as the "John S. DaVanzo Community Pool."
In September 1959, Mayor Stanley Krause announces plans for a swimming pool in the Thomas H. Wilson Park. The proposed pool would be 9X100 feet and cost an estimated $150,000. Mayor Krause appoints Trustees John DaVanzo and Harry Rotherham to make further surveys.
