School District Voters Pass Budget
On Tuesday, May 15, Mineola School District voters passed a $75,664,471 for the 2007-2008 school year by a 1,230 to 1,138 margin. Voters also elected challenger Laraine Salvatore to the board of education over incumbent Donna Strein, who served on the board for the last six years.

Village Board to Discuss Reassessment at Tonight's Meeting
The Mineola Village Board is expected to discuss its possible plan to reassess all the properties in the village as part of the process to adopt the Homestead Exception, which would allow the budget to have two tax rates - one for commercial properties and one for residential properties.

The Cardinals (Willis Hobbies) defeated the Indians (Bairrada Rodizio Restaurant) 3-2. For the Cardinals, Robert Lang and Connor Smith pitched well, giving up only one run each. For the Indians, Jason Ward and Alex Maher matched their effort as they combined to give up only three runs. The Cardinals' Connor Smith had two RBI; Joe Egan had an RBI and Stephen Gallo scored two runs with aggressive base running. For the Indians, Jason Ward had a homerun and Michael Kosina scored after walking and stealing second, third and home.

Crown Jewels of Mineola's Soccer Leave Their Mark
Mineola High School boys soccer coach Paul Pereira knew years ago that he had something special in the pipeline when he saw Michael Marques and Gustavo Dias, just barely out of elementary school, play at the now-defunct Mineola Summer Sports Program. Doing the math, he would comment to junior varsity coach Al Cavalluzzo how the 2004 to 2006 seasons looked promising. He never, however, dared to dream that Marques and Dias, along with a tremendously talented supporting cast would put Mineola soccer on the map again three decades after the likes of Manny Matos had first brought glory to Mineola soccer.
