Siena College freshman Alexandra Kain (Mineola High School, Class of 2006) was named MAAC Conference Lacrosse Rookie of the Week on April 9 for her three goal performance in the first 11 minutes of a televised road match on April 5 against conference champion LeMoyne College.
The 5'8'' midfielder finished the season as the Saints fourth leading scorer while starting all 14 games. This was Kain's first weekly conference recognition.
Siena completed their season 4-10 including a 3-4 conference record, which dramatically improved on last season's 2-15 overall mark including a winless conference slate. The Saints will establish themselves as a team to be reckoned with in the MAAC behind an offense led by Kain, two sophomores and a junior. Head coach Jake McHerron is excited about his nucleus, particularly Kain, saying, "Throughout the yea,r Allie has demonstrated the skills necessary to become an elite player in the MAAC. We hope this is only the beginning for such a talented young athlete."
Kain was a three-sport star with the Mustangs, lauded as All-Conference in soccer and track and All-Nassau County in her final two lacrosse seasons at Mineola. More importantly, Alexandra was an Academic All-American as a junior and senior. Allie is the daughter of Julie and William Kain of Williston Park.
