:
I wish to take this opportunity to thank all of my neighbors who voted in Tuesday's Village election for their overwhelming show of support and encouragement for me and my running mates, John DaVanzo and Larry Werther.
In the past four years, Mineola has accomplished so much. Together, we have eliminated budget deficits, ended spiraling debt, restored our village's fiscal integrity, and improved services to our residents. We have established a new era of open government that includes all of our residents and guarantees that every voice can be heard. And, we have set a new standard for Mineola elections, where residents can decide for themselves what is best based on issues and fact instead of fear, lies, and distortion.
None of this would have been possible without the support and active participation of Mineola's greatest asset - our residents.
Yet, in the four years it took to begin fixing the problems that plagued our village, we also laid the foundation on which to shape Mineola's future. We have set in motion plans to grow our tax base which will provide much needed tax relief for our residents. We continue to advocate on behalf of our community against outside forces that might destroy our suburban quality of life such as the development of a third track along the Long Island Railroad or the creation of a transportation center to serve the Nassau County HUB. We have introduced sound management principles to village government that will ensure that the future of Mineola continues as bright as ever.
Again, none of this would have been possible without the support of our residents, their demand for better, more responsive village government, and their embracing the change needed to implement it. For this we will always be thankful.
I also wish to thank all of our friends, neighbors, and family members who stood with us throughout this campaign and over the past four years. John, Larry, and I are grateful for everything you have done and will continue to work tirelessly to earn your continued support and confidence.
We look forward to serving all of Mineola's residents in the next two years as we further the progress we have made together. Thank you.
Jack M. Martins, Mayor
