I just finished reading Trustee Fairgrieve's and Cusato's memo to Mayor Martins in the Mineola American (Jan. 31). Someone needs to help me with this logic because it escapes me.
Let's review, shall we?
These two "Trustees", and I use the term loosely, show up at the Jan. 3 board meeting, conveniently just after the police referendum is defeated, with two things in hand.
The first is a "5-Point Plan," which is nothing more than a political gimmick intended as a publicity stunt to garner public favor. They are preying on the fact that the residents are now fully aware of the safety issues facing the village.
The second is an already-prepared press release, as Fairgrieve and Cusato fully expected Mayor Martins to oppose the idea.
So what happens? Their plot backfires.
The board of trustees fully endorses the 5-Point Plan. The mayor then assigns each member, including himself, one of the five points in order to make it happen.
Now our two fearless, crime-fighting trustees have to actually do something.
Oh no! Holy overload, Batman! That can't happen!
Now what do they do?
The next move is for Trustees Fairgrieve and Cusato to whine about the way the issue was handled, complain about having to really work on something and put a negative spin on the whole thing.
Why, you ask?
Because that is all they know and the village election is right around the corner. The longer they stall, the less the chances of having to do the diligence required to make the 5-Point(less) Plan work.
My fellow residents, I have stood by for the last four years and watched Linda Fairgrieve and Paul Cusato do nothing but complain and play politics while Mayor Martins makes the intelligent decisions that make Mineola a better place. I dare anyone to refute that or tell me we are not a healthy, thriving village because of him and his team.
Here's a fun fact: At a recent board meeting a village resident asked Linda Fairgrieve why she has not made, or seconded, a motion for the past year.
Her answer was "Because I'm thinking." Scary, right? If you think that's bad, you should come to a board meeting and experience the ineptness for yourself.
I kid you not.
Don't be duped by the imprudent banter.
Mayor Martins and his team are the real deal.
Believe it.
