Unfortunately, the President has missed another opportunity to move the country in the right direction.
President Bush failed to inform Congress and the American people on the details of his plan for Iraq. No one wants our country to be defeated in Iraq. However, the President's plan does not provide America with a realistic plan for victory. If President Bush is serious about ending the conflict and bringing stability to the area, he must listen to Congress and work together to formulate an achievable plan for victory.
I was encouraged to hear President Bush address the current healthcare situation in America. The President has opened a dialogue on health care reform in this country. However, I believe the President's plan will do little to provide coverage for all Americans while lowering the cost of care. Under President Bush's leadership, the nation's health insurance crisis has worsened: costs are up and the number of uninsured Americans has grown. While I may not agree on the details of the President's plan, I am hopeful to find common ground in the coming months to truly improve America's health care system.
I agree with the President's call to reduce our dependency on oil and the need to develop renewable sources of energy. Our nation is far too dependent on foreign oil, and must develop new and cleaner forms of renewable fuels. I pledge to work with President Bush in a bipartisan fashion on energy and global warming to move our nation in the right direction.
President Bush had a responsibility to the American people to set a clear and viable agenda for our nation in his State of the Union address. Unfortunately, the President missed the mark leaving myself, and the American people, with more questions than answers.
