School District Formulates Preliminary Budget
The Mineola School District has begun the budget process by formulating a preliminary budget for the 2007-2008 school year. The preliminary budget calls for an 8.57 percent increase in expenditures from the 2006-2007 budget, which was passed by voters last May.

New Line Party Announces Candidates
In front of approximately 100 of the party's faithful supporters, New Line Party Chairman Walter Hobbs cited the many accomplishments of the Martins administration as reason for the nomination. Among the many accomplishments mentioned were Martins' open government policies including a Mineola television channel and website, restoration of fiscal responsibility and his championing of many causes against the likes of the county and its land sale proposal and waste management. Hobbs also cited the renewed sense of enthusiasm felt by both the residential and business communities that is directly attributed to Martins' stewardship of Mineola.

Mustang Run/Walk Donates $3,000 to PAL
The Mineola Mustang Run/Walk recently donated $3,000 to the Mineola Police Athletic League (PAL) from the money raised from the run in 2006. The money will be used to buy equipment for the children's football and lacrosse programs.

Going for the Gold
In 2007, for the first time in its 11-year history, women will be competing in the prestigious Ball Hockey World Cup. This year's event, taking place in June in Ratingen, Germany, will include women's teams from such countries as Canada, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Germany. The USA Women's team was recently formed and includes Mineola natives Colleen McGowan and Karen Krawchuk.
