Residents Makes Statement Against Village Police Department
Whether the Village of Mineola would get its own police department was of the most controversial issues to come to the village in some time and, judging from the number of residents who voted, it was a passionate one as well. Last week, residents defeated the referendum by a wide margin, clearly making a statement that a village police department was not wanted.
Nassau County Fall Sports Awards Announced
The full slate of fall sports awards was recently published with Mineola Mustangs prominently named across all levels of honors. The Conference ABC-I champion boys soccer team received numerous accolades led by senior Michael Marques' unprecedented third consecutive All-County plaque. Senior Gustavo Dias received identical honors for the second consecutive year. Senior cross country runner Lauren Mobyed received her All-County status based on her second appearance at the New York State Championships. On the gridiron, senior Jon Hock was also recognized as an All-County athlete adding to the family trophy case.
Mustang Stakes Horseracing Fundraiser for Athletic Booster Club
The Mineola Booster Club is sponsoring the fifth annual Mustang Stakes fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007 from 7-11 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 186 Jericho Turnpike in Mineola. The cost is $22 per person.
