The Empire 8 Conference (NCAA Division III) named Dan Medlock (Mineola HS graduate), a sophomore strong safety at Alfred University, Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending November 4, 2006. Dan was a 2005 graduate of Mineola after a four-year career as a multi-sport star with the Mustangs.

Medlock was honored for his play in Alfred's 28-17 home victory against 13th-ranked Ithaca when he had five tackles (four solo) and intercepted two passes. His first interception set up Alfred's go-ahead score in the second quarter after returning the ball 59 yards to the Ithaca 9-yard line. Medlock also defended five passes as Alfred snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Bombers.

Medlock tops the Saxons with three interceptions on the season and is among the team's leading tacklers (including three for losses). Alfred (7-3), missed out on the Division III National Championship, but hosted Rochester in the ECAC Bowl Championship on Saturday November 18. Medlock is the son of Sue and Sid Medlock of Garden City Park.
