Getting Close to Crunch Time
Will the Village of Mineola be getting its own police force for Christmas? That's the question residents will decide on Dec. 5 when the referendum on whether Mineola should form its own police department or stay with patrols from the Nassau County Police Department's 3rd Precinct will be held.

This Sunday, Nov. 19, the village's biggest fundraiser, the Mineola Mustang Run, will take place. In this, the village's centennial year, it is appropriate that the Mustang Run would draw the most participants and funds it ever has and it is scheduled to do so.

Mustangs Name Varsity Hoops Coach
Mineola High School Athletic Director Ralph Amitrano announced the hiring of James Hegmann as the Mustangs new varsity basketball coach beginning with the 2006-2007 season. Hegmann hails from a well-known Mineola basketball family and has previous experience as a girls summer league coach at the high school. According to Amitrano, "I look forward to Jimmy doing a great job for us. He is an energetic, positive person with a great basketball background. Jimmy has a good understanding of the expectations that it takes to create a positive environment where student athletes can become better players and better people." Hegmann will meet his prospective players when tryouts begin on Nov. 15.

Corpus Christ CYO Holds Golf Outing
On Friday Oct. 27 at Forest Park Golf Course in Woodhaven, Corpus Christi CYO/School held a golf outing. With over 50 golfers in attendance, the day was quite a success.
