Mineola Shows School Spirit on Homecoming
This past Saturday, the Mineola School District held its annual homecoming parade. Since this is the centennial year of the Village of Mineola, the theme of the parade was Mineola's 100th birthday.
Centennial Parade Scheduled for Oct. 22
The Mineola Centennial Parade, which was originally scheduled for Oct. 1 but was canceled due to inclement weather, has been re-scheduled for Oct. 22. Assembly has been pushed up to noon. Division 1 will line up at Wardwell Road; Division 2 at Beebe Road; Division 3 at White Road; Division 4 at Latham Road; Division 5 at Andrews Road and Division 6 at Emory Road. The parade is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. from Wardwell Road.
Scholarships Encourage Outside Athletic Development
On an annual basis, the Mineola Athletic Booster Club recognizes deserving Middle and High School student-athletes for their dedication to their individual athletic endeavors. The MABC Scholarship program encourages the use of outside training initiatives as a goal to improve the performance of the Varsity sports teams at Mineola High School. Mat Sanderleaf, president of the Booster Club, is proud to announce the group of 2005-2006 recipients which total in excess of $5,000 in scholarship grants.
Girls Volleyball Team Relies on Depth
For the second consecutive season, Mineola Girls Varsity Volleyball Coach Diana Nick faces a daunting task - replacing 80 percent of her starting lineup. While little was expected of last year's team, late season heroics propelled the Lady Mustangs to a surprising playoff berth. The formula for 2006 seems eerily similar. After a rough non-conference schedule at the outset, positive results are being achieved.
