The Mineola Centennial Parade and carnival scheduled for Oct. 1 was canceled due to weather.
By 1 p.m., the time the parade was to kickoff at Jericho Turnpike and Wardwell Road, the sun had sneaked out from behind the clouds. However, it had rained hard earlier in the morning.
The centennial committee made the decision to cancel the parade on Saturday due to the forecast for Sunday. The forecast called for a threat of lightning and the committee canceled the parade and celebration to ensure the safety of the participants. The forecast also called for showers until late afternoon.
The committee has rescheduled the parade for Oct. 22. It will kickoff between noon and 1 p.m. with fireworks in the evening.
