The biggest parade in Mineola's history will take place Oct. 1. The Centennial Parade already has 80 marching units. The marchers include Corpus Christi School and Church; the Albertson VFW; the Hampton Street School; the MHS Marching Band; the Portuguese Lions Club; The Irish American Society; Salvation Army; Mineola Chamber of Commerce; St. Andrews Episcopal Church; Mineola Library; Catholic Daughters; a show mobile of the Town of North Hempstead; Rough Rider Cavalry; the Fire Departments; Leisure Club; Village of Williston Park; Winthrop Hospital; Chaminade; American Legion; Village of Hempstead; Cross Street School; Presbyterian Church; Lutheran Church; Italian American Society and police horses.
There will be at least three bands and many groups will have floats. The marchers will start from Wardwell Road and proceed east to Roslyn Road and then south to Wilson Park. A huge block party will take place at the park, followed by fireworks.
On Sept. 20 at 6 p.m., in front of the old village hall, a time capsule will be opened that was buried 25 years ago, when Mineola celebrated its 75th Anniversary.
