The Mineola Pool was started in 1960 and due to the efforts of John DaVanzo, the pool was opened in 1961.

Years later, the pool was remodeled and the plaque naming John DaVanzo as the founder was missing and never replaced. I spoke with two previous mayors regarding the replacement of this plaque, but nothing was ever done.

Now, I am asking Mayor Jack Martins to get the job done, put up a plaque and name the pool "John DaVanzo Mineola Pool," he deserves that honor.

Previous pool board member, my wife, Louise DiGiorgio and I (founders of Mineola volunteer ambulance corps) have been trying to get this done for years. I hope the current village board will be able to get the job done.

Joseph DiGiorgio
