After 20 years, the 1986 World Champion New York Mets still command attention. On Friday, Aug. 18, in The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, located in New Hyde Park, photographers, fans and guests swarmed the first floor of the bright and spirit-lifting house in search of photos and autographs with the heroes of the magic season of 1986.

The day before the '86 Mets were scheduled to appear at Shea Stadium for their 20-year reunion, some of the members of the championship team were at The Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park.
Members of the '86 Mets - Wally Backman, Mookie Wilson, Tim Teufel, Lenny Dykstra, Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling - were on hand to sign memorabilia including a bat that will be on display in the Kreuger Family Room in the house. The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island provides families a home-away-from-home during their child's treatment at local hospitals. Like the '86 Mets, The Ronald McDonald House of Long Island is also celebrating its 20th anniversary.
For the 1986 Mets, it's almost as if they just won the World Series yesterday. Judging from the hero's welcome they received, it might as well have been yesterday for the fans haven't forgotten the magic moments the team provided New York with 20 years ago. The house and the local hospitals are also performing their own miracles each day in the treatment of ill children and by comforting their families.
