Congratulations to the Mineola girls major division softball team! They recently made league history by becoming the first-ever Mineola girls softball team to win the championship. A very successful regular season, that saw the girls finish in second place, was followed up by a 6 - 2 victory over a talented squad from Glen Oaks.
The girls lost just three games during the regular season before defeating the team from Merillon in the playoffs and advancing to meet Glen Oaks.
The players worked hard throughout the season with contributions from everyone. The slick fielding and timely hitting of infielders Amanda Fucci, Tiffany Klein, Melissa Mastoridis, Erin Etherson, Katie Pietrowski and Brittany Lahey; outfielders Rachel Montanez, Vanessa Richards, Christie Joyce, Nicole Henrichs, Gabriella Maher and Gabby Cantileno, along with catcher Jessica Monaco, gave plenty of support to the pitching staff of Caitlin Kennedy, Taylor Lubrano and Tori Goldbach. At the helm was head coach Tom Kennedy, assisted by Artie Lubrano and Jay Monaco.
The girls should be very proud of their accomplishment and look forward to coming back next year to defend their crown. Many thanks to the parents who supported the team all season. A very special thank you to Keith and Nancy Gessner for their unending support of girls sports in Mineola.
