On May 18, 2006 DeStefano was sworn in as president of the County Firemen's Association, an organization comprised of 71 departments and 10,000 firefighters who serve Nassau County. The Village of Mineola Board of Trustees voted unanimously to increase rates for local taxi cab rides in Mineola from $3 to $4. However, the cost for senior citizen rides will remain at $2.50. Local rides in Mineola are defined as one location in the village to another location within the village. FULL STORY

The Mineola High School Sports Marketing class visited Madison Square Garden recently. Twenty students toured the world's most famous arena with a behind the scenes look that began with an informational session in The Theatre, which is the 5,000-seat arena located below the main Garden.
