The Mineola High School girls track & field team completed its regular season competition with a second place finish in the Division Championships at Cold Spring Harbor.

Senior captain Julia Yan led the way with three All-Division performances. She started off the meet with a third place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. In doing so, Yan shattered her own school record in the event by two seconds with a time of 71.5. Yan then took second in the 400-meters with a time of 64.1. In that event, Alia Fater was right behind Yan at 65 seconds and also earned All-Division honors. Yan also anchored the 4X800 relay team to the division championship. She teamed with Fater, Jenn Pawlowski and Nicole Wissler to break the old school record in the event by 11 seconds. All four runners earned All-Division honors. Senior Lauren Napolitano finished third in the 200-meters and was named All-Division. Senior Samantha Hegmann continued to dominate the throwing events with a pair of firsts. She took the shotput with a 32'6'' and the discus with a throw of 106'6''. Hegmann was undefeated in the discus in division and conference the entire season.

"Nicole Wissler also performed well in the 1,500 and 3,000-meters. Nicole proved to be a strong distance runner. She broke her own record in the 1,500 with a 5:21.2 and finished fourth in the division meet. She also ran 11:41.6 in the 3,000, which was good for fourth. We also got strong outings from Jenn Pawlowski, Christine Medlock, Jaimie Silva, Meredith Minsky and Liz Campbell," said coach Kristin Frazer.

In addition, Pawlowki finished fourth in the 800 and Medlock took fourth in the 400, enabling Mineola to win three of the top four spots in the race.

Silva was fourth in the triple jump and set a school record with a leap of 30'7''. Minsky continued to improve in the shotput with a fourth place finish while Campbell took fourth in the discus. Mineola's 4X400 relay team of Christine Medlock, Jen Port, Laura Restrepo and Lauren Napolitano took third.

"We finished second to a strong Valley Stream North team, which is coached by two of my brothers," said coach Frazer.

Up next for Mineola was the county championships. Coverage will be in next week's edition.
