The Mineola High School Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team was not only tough on the field, it also did the job in the classroom. Allie Kain, Grace Martorella, Kristin Mobyed and Lauren Mobyed were named Academic All-Americans. Kain and Martorella have earned this honor for the second time, while the Mobyed sisters have been recognized for the first time.
To earn academic All-American status, these athletes needed a cumulative average from freshman year through the present term of 3.6 or better out of a 4.0 academic scale. Most of their course loads have been in college prep or advanced placement courses. These young ladies also had to have made significant contributions to the school and community beyond their participation in athletics. The academic records of Kain, Martorella, Mobyed and Mobyed contain a combined 14 advanced placement courses, as well as numerous honors courses.
Their other community and school activities included the Animal Rights Club, Increase the Peace, Key Club, Mock Trial Team, Student Athletes and Student Service Center. All four have also volunteered for Lisa and Vinny Carnabuci as coaches in the Mineola Girls PAL Lacrosse League. Kristin and Lauren Mobyed also have volunteered at New York Hospital.
Kain will attend Siena College in the fall and Martorella will be attending Fordham University. Meanwhile, the Mobyed sisters have another year at Mineola High School to look forward to many more academic and athletic accomplishments.
