Village to Solve Tax Cert Problem?
A continuing problem each year when the Village of Mineola formulates its fiscal year operating budget are tax certiorari payments or refunds to property owners who successfully challenge their assessments. These payments account for a major hit on the village's budget. For the 2006-2007 budget, tax certioraris eclipsed the $1 million mark. However, there may be a way for the village to stop the bleeding and save residents money.

PAL Chiefs Defeat Freeport
The Mineola PAL 5th and 6th grade Chiefs dominated Freeport, winning 7-3. The Mineola Chiefs completely controlled the face-offs, which enabled them to control the game. Both Brian Gaffney and Brian Ehrhardt went a combined 10-0 on face-offs. Sparked by a strong defense, the Chiefs forced several shotless possessions. The saves made by Tevin Carlo (7 saves) and Nick Miller (8 saves) helped the Chiefs win their second game of the year.
