NAGA's 2006 World Championship Tournament took place on March 11 and 12 at St. Peter's College in Jersey City. NAGA (North American Grappling Association) is America's largest mixed grappling tournament and is nationally ranked with over 27,000 competitors worldwide.
ThaiSport Training Camp was lucky enough to have all three of their competitors who fight under the name of New York Fight Factory place in the top three positions. Kru David worked hard with these competitors in the ring and octagon, preparing them for this competition, where the goal is to control your opponent. Take-downs and securing dominant control are what you're looking for, ultimately forcing your opponent to consciously submit/tap out.
Justin Sandler of Mineola, who competed in the under 14, no-gi, 60-70 lbs. division, where chokes, arm bars and leg locks are all legal. Justin also placed first in the no-submissive division, where points are given for take-downs, passing the guard and positioning. Justin went undefeated in all five of his submission and no submission fights.
Danny Colica placed first in the teen, ages 14-18, no-gi, no submission division and third in his submission divison.
Marcel Vachnet competed in the adult no-gi, no submission division, where he took fourth place.
First place winners received engraved three-foot Samarai swords. Danny Colica proudly took home one sword and Justin Sandler left the tournament with two swords. Justin is currently ranked eighth in the nation.
