Mineola Mayor Jack M. Martins wanted to start the village budget process with a tentative budget for the 2006-2007 fiscal year with no increase over the 2005-2006 fiscal year. However, pressures on the budget have caused an increase of 3.85 percent, which is still considered moderate.

NAGA's 2006 World Championship Tournament took place on March 11 and 12 at St. Peter's College in Jersey City. NAGA (North American Grappling Association) is America's largest mixed grappling tournament and is nationally ranked with over 27,000 competitors worldwide.

The Mineola varsity baseball team began its season in very non-baseball-type weather. Through cold and windy conditions, the Mustangs got going outside with a string of four scrimmages and a non-league contest to open its 2006 season.
