Village Board Begins Budget Discussions
The Village of Mineola Board of Trustees began its budget discussions last Wednesday. As Mayor Jack M. Martins promised, the tentative budget for the 2006-2007 fiscal year reflected no tax increase over the 2005-2006 budget. However, residents may ultimately see a modest increase as there are some items in the budget that may need to be increased such as the contingency line. However, the mayor and the village board seem to be mindful of any tax impact to residents and business owners.

Two More Years for Hometown Party Trustees
Village of Mineola Trustees Linda Fairgrieve and Paul Cusato were sworn in for another two years on the village board last week during a ceremony held on April 3 at the Mineola Village Hall Community Center. Fairgrieve and Cusato, members of the Hometown Party, won convincingly in last month's election.

Local Children Are Fit to Go
During the winter, the girls and boys at Charles Water Karate & Fitness, located at 122 Hillside Avenue in Williston Park, spent three days and three hours at Boot Camp, which included a creative form tournament and a team sparring tournament with all the students working together. The winning team received trophies.

The Mineola boys varsity lacrosse team under longtime head coach Mark Miller again finds itself having to compete in a very tough conference. Miller, now in his 22nd year of coaching lacrosse, said, "Our entire schedule is tough due to our highly competitive conference. We hope to be competitive in every game."
