Next August, when the members of the Wheatley School's varsity soccer team report for the first day of practice, for the first time in 34 years, a new coach will greet and lead the team. Steve Cadet was recently appointed varsity boys soccer coach by the East Williston UFSD Board of Education. He brings an illustrious soccer background and extensive experience to the Wheatley program.

Steve Cadet

Steve played intercollegiate soccer as a scholarship player at Auburn University at Montgomery and received a master's degree in Physical Education from Adelphi University in 1998. He has played for the Long Island Rough Riders for six years and was team captain during the 1995 and 2002 championship years. Recently, he was appointed as an assistant coach for the Rough Riders. Steve also played two years for the Staten Island Vipers. His coaching rŽsumŽ includes stints at Molloy College, Adelphi University and Hofstra University. Steve teaches health and physical education for the Westbury Public Schools and coached JV boys soccer last fall. Prior to his Westbury appointment, Steve served as Dean of Students for three years at Queens Vocational and Technical High School.

Coach Cadet has the formidable challenge of assuming leadership of one of Nassau County's premier boys soccer programs. Under the direction of Bernie Hintz, who recently retired from his soccer coaching responsibilities, Wheatley achieved the best winning percentage and most wins, since 1997, of all Section 8 boys soccer teams. During that span of seven years, Wheatley recorded 62 wins, 10 losses and 24 ties for a winning percentage of 86.1 percent. During Coach Hintz' 34-year tenure at Wheatley, his teams won four Long Island titles and two New York State championships.
