Will Rogers had it right when he said, "I don't belong to any organized political party - I'm a Democrat." The Dems in the legislature are busy destroying each other while the recently re-elected county executive is running around the state campaigning for governor. Two weeks after his inauguration Tom Suozzi tells us that he plans to run for governor against the presumed choice for the Dems, Eliot Spitzer. Mr. Spitzer lets us down by passing over the well-qualified Tom DiNapoli as his running mate. I told a Republican office holder, "This seems to be your chance." He said, "Oh, don't worry, we will probably create our own mess."

It was a head-on crash of two speeding cars and John Drennan was busy snapping pictures from every angle. John knew that these pixs would be valuable a year later at court hearings and as insurance carriers argued about who was at fault. Drennan who has a studio on First Street was not just an accident photographer, but took pictures at every major event in Mineola and in Nassau County. He came to our office every week with his photos as well as to Newsday, Daily News and NY Post. When I returned from the army, I tried to get a job at the Asbury Park Press and John was their photographer, years later when Grace and I started the MA, there he was again. John was an expert on early flyers and wrote books about men like Lindsay, Glenn Curtis, Wally Post and other American aviators. Fortunately, much of his work had been saved and can be seen at a special room at Hofstra. He died just like he had lived, collapsing as he snapped a picture of a car crash.
