Last Wednesday night, Mineola Mayor Jack M. Martins and trustees Larry Werther, Linda Fairgrieve, Paul Cusato and John DaVanzo honored the members of the Mineola High School boys varsity soccer team and coaches Paul Pereira an Al Cavalluzzo.

The Mineola Mustangs has a storybook season, winning the Long Island championship. Mayor Martins presented a proclamation from the village to superintendent of schools Dr. Larry Licopoli and board of education President Donna Strein. Also, each member of the team was given a key to the village by Mayor Martins.

Coach Pereira said the defining moment in the season was beating top-rated Garden City 3-2 on their home turf. That showed the Mustangs they could beat anybody. It turns out they beat everybody en route to the Long Island championship.

Congratulations to the Mineola Mustangs boys soccer team:

Carlos Barros, Tiago Barbosa, Helder Cancelinha, Jameson Canning, Nelson Duarte, Claudio DeMatos, Gustavo Dias, Aniello Palumbo, Padraic Phelan, Bruno Rodriques, Nick Tonini, Mathias Muller, Oswaldo Hernandez, George Costa, Michael Marques, Raoney Mello, Lucas Natel, Felipe Rodriques, Nuno Rodrigues, Frederick Usma, John Valente, Shawn Wachter, Coach Paul Periera, Assistant Coach Al Cavalluzzo, and Scorekeepers/statisticians: Alyssa Palma and Alyssa Napolitano.
