Two months ago, the beloved Wheatley School tennis coach, Mo Schneider, experienced the tragic and untimely death of his daughter, Jill. She was the victim of a traffic accident, and incredibly, this is the second child that Mo has lost. A son, Joe, died tragically more than 30 years ago.
Mo is the much-loved, respected and long-time coach of the Wheatley varsity boys and girls tennis teams. During his nearly 40 years of service to the athletic department, Mo has touched the lives of hundreds of students, and those of us fortunate enough to have had contact with him, have benefited greatly from his sensitivity, compassion, wisdom, humor and wit.
The Wheatley school-community would like to honor Mo's beloved children and to celebrate their lives in addition to recognizing Mo's wonderful legacy. The Wheatley School has established two scholarships, in a yet to be determined amount, that will be awarded to one deserving senior male and one deserving senior female student. Members of the varsity boys and girls tennis teams have established the following criteria for the selection of recipients for the Mo Schneider Scholarship: graduating senior, student-athlete, exemplary academic achievement, displays positive attitude and sense of honor, love of and aptitude in English, promotes equality and fairness and inspires other to achieve.
If you would like to participate in this initiative to honor Mo and the memory of his children, you may make a contribution to the scholarship fund. All contributions will be placed in a trust in agency account, specifically designated for this scholarship. Checks, made payable to The Wheatley School and with the notation "Mo Schneider Scholarship," may be sent to Rick Simon, Principal, The Wheatley School, 11 Bacon Road, Old Westbury, NY 11568.
The public's expressions of support for Mo and his family will be greatly appreciated.
