As the calendar hurried toward the holidays and school broke for vacation, the Mineola High School sports teams continued to work hard. But as they took a break to breathe in the aromas of holiday goodies, its gives us a chance to bring you up-to-date on how some of the teams are doing.
Dan Guido's wrestling squad is young with only three seniors. But, the coach said the team is much improved from over a year ago. "We have competed in two tournaments so far. We finished fourth out of 11 teams in the Hank Paris Invitational and only four points out of second. Last year, we were 11th out of 12. The boys also finished fifth out of 11 teams at the Ralph Jansen Invitational," said Guido.

"This year has gone well so far and the team is improving every week. We wrestle in a tougher league than last year. We won the conference last year and are still looking to be successful this season. We have our sights set on the Nassau County Class-B championship," said the coach.
Mustangs Bowling Round-Up
Mineola boys bowling coach Helms Bohringer reports the varsity squad is in fourth place in the conference. The varsity squad is made up of John Carnabucci, and Joe Calvao with Paul Tapais and Matt Ponte having a nice first season on varsity.
The JV team is in fifth place in its conference. The team is comprised of Matt Wojis, Sean Boyle, Tim Pappagiannis, Ricky Gonzalez and Bryan O'Malley.
Girls bowling coach Valerie Liese reports the varsity team was 4-2 heading into the holidays and ranked 14th in Nassau County. Danielle Rivera rolled a 583 series with a 223 first game. Desiree Perez has bowled two 200-plus games.
