It seems enormously fitting that we write this letter to our Mineola Community in this, the season of giving. Your generosity and support of the fundraising events that occurred on Nov. 10 in support of the victims of the recent hurricane disasters helped to raise over $6,610.

In addition, since the onset of the hurricane devastation, our Mineola District family has rallied together with so many wonderful fundraising efforts. We would be remiss if we did not celebrate these efforts coming from each of our district's schools. Each school raised the following:

Mineola High School $1,700

Mineola Middle School $2,000

Cross Street School $1,315

Hampton Street School $614

Jackson Avenue School $300

Meadow Drive School $1,574

Willis Avenue School $1,710

At the Dec. 1 board of education meeting, we proudly presented a check in the amount of $14,813 to a representative from the American Red Cross. We thank those of you who were able to attend for your kind support.

In closing, we want to thank each and every person who so generously gave of their time and talents to make this donation possible. Our school community has shown that we do indeed hold true the words of our district's mission statement in contributing positively to a global society.
