James Barron Sr., a former resident of Mineola, died in Annapolis, MD Nov. 28, 2005 after a brief illness. Mr. Barron was born in Brooklyn on Feb. 17, 1917 and was raised in Mineola. He graduated from Mineola High in 1936 where he had been active in athletics. Following service in the Navy in WWII he finished his education at Pratt Institute (Brooklyn) in Chemical Engineering. He worked for Exxon Mobil in refining and later for UOP-Signal Oil. He was active in community affairs and served several terms on the Mineola School Board, until he took a job transfer in 1960. Although he
traveled to many countries working in the oil industry he always missed Mineola.
