Mineola Mayor Jack M. Martins has been appointed legislative representative for the Finance Policy Committee of the New York State Conference of Mayors' (NYCOM) Legislative Committee. The appointment was made by Mayor Frank Pagano of the Village of Fredonia, president of the Conference of Mayors.
As a member of the Legislative Committee, Mayor Martins will be directly involved in developing and ratifying NYCOM's legislative program for the upcoming 2006 legislative session in Albany. Additionally, once the legislative session is underway, he will work with other committee members and NYCOM's entire membership to secure the enactment of bills favorable to local taxpayers.
"It is an honor to be recognized by other municipalities for the work we are doing here in Mineola," stated Mayor Martins upon his appointment, adding: "It is also a great benefit to our taxpayers that this is a volunteer opportunity that can be fulfilled primarily from right here in Mineola.
Mayor Martins expressed his hope that, by lending our village's voice to statewide issues, Mineola and other villages throughout New York will receive the assistance and support needed to better serve our taxpayers.
In making the appointment, Mayor Pagano stated, "Mayor Martins has been active in the Conference of Mayors and we are pleased to have him involved in this important undertaking. We look forward to a productive legislative session, and the dedicated service of Mayor Martins will help us achieve that goal."
The Conference of Mayors represents village and city governments in New York State and has 575 members, ranging from the smallest village to the city of New York. NYCOM has been in existence since 1910.
