On Sunday, Nov. 20, the 21st annual Mineola Mustang Run/Walk will be held in Mineola, beginning at Mineola Middle School. The event is being held in honor of former Mineola mayor and town receiver of taxes Anne Galante. The one-mile run/walk will start at 9 a.m. and the 5K (3.1 mile) run goes off at 10 a.m. Each year, the number of runner s and walkers participating in the events continues to grow. Volunteers are needed to stand or sit on the street corners to protect the runners and walkers from traffic to ensure community safety. Volunteers are also needed to give out water and refreshments to the participants. Anyone interested in helping, should contact Linda Fairgrieve at 294-5914.
Chairperson Linda Fairgrieve commented that people should not become complacent and assume that the event will be a success. All persons are urged to volunteer and each volunteer will receive a free long sleeve shirt for helping. Volunteers should report to the Mineola Middle School by 7:45 a.m. The middle school is located on Emory Road in Mineola. The event will be over by 11 a.m.
In its history this event has raised the most money of any event held in the history of Mineola. Over $350,000 has been collected and distributed to many organizations in the village. Many thousands of adults and children have benefited from this event and its fundraising activities. This event cannot continue unless people volunteer and help make it a success.
Linda Fairgrieve, the Mustang Run committee chairperson, expresses her deep appreciation to Mayor Jack Martins and the Mineola Village Board, Mineola Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lorenzo Licopoli, the Mineola School Board and the Mineola Chamber of Commerce and all the businesses who support the event.
