It's time for students to go back to school and for those residents of the Mineola School District, it's back to work on what should be a busy year for not only do students have to work hard to meet expectations but the district's board and administration have set goals to work toward.

Mayor Martins to Give State of the Village Address
The Mineola Chamber of Commerce once again will sponsor the Mayor's State of the Village Address on Tuesday, Sept. 20. Mayor Jack Martins will address the local residents and businesses for the second year in a row at the Village Hall, 155 Washington Avenue, Mineola, at 6:30 pm. Some of the anticipated topics are the 100 year anniversary celebration, parking, the status of the study concerning an independent local police force, restaurant classification, the library, the forthcoming improvements on the properties which previously housed Koeppel Ford and Gensel's Furniture, and the advocacy issues he is representing Mineola on with the town and county.

Summer is over. It's time to change your schedule from trips to the village pool and head for the high school games. Amazing how fast the summer went by. But, Mineola High School soccer coach Paul Pereira welcomes back what he hopes is another playoff team.

Athletics Booster Club Announces Mustangs Stakes Fundraiser
The Mineola Athletic Booster Club has announced that the fourth annual Mustang Stakes will take place on January 28, 2005 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Jericho Turnpike in Mineola. The cost is $22 per person. All proceeds from this event will directly support the Mineola Mustang sports teams.
