This report from the task force appointed by Mineola Mayor Jack M. Martins to investigate whether it is feasible for the village to pursue having its own police force is expected this month. However, the report may not be given to the public at the Sept. 7 public meeting at village hall. The report could come at a meeting later in the month. The report is expected to discuss whether it is economically feasible for the village to go ahead and pursue having a police force instead of having the 3rd Precinct continue to serve the village. Ultimately, the residents will decide via a referendum. After the report is presented, there are expected to be public meetings scheduled for the sole purpose of discussing the police department issue.
