Village's Local Law Places Classification on Restaurants
The mayor and the Village of Mineola Board of Trustees considered a local law that distinguishes between take-out and sit-down restaurants when the board considered an application for a special use permit.
Being Paid for Not Working?
A former Nassau County employee was arrested last week for allegedly defrauding the taxpayers by at least $12,000. Legislative minority leader Peter Schmitt believes there may be another instance of wrongdoing and called on County Executive Tom Suozzi to place one of his top deputies on a leave of absence. Suozzi's office though, believes Schmitt is just playing politics as the race of county executive begins to heat up.
Summer a Success for Mineola Summer Rec Program
At a public meeting of the Mineola Board of Trustees, Mayor Jack M. Martins thanked director Suzanne Skaflestad and the entire staff for a job well done at the village's summer recreation program. Indeed it was another fun summer in Mineola with loads of activities for the campers.
Jason Napolitano, president of Jay's World Childhood Cancer Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit organization, announced that the first annual Jay's World "Walk with Me" event will be held at Mineola Memorial Park in Mineola. Dedicated volunteers, walkers and the directors of Jay's World will once again come together to continue in their mission "to raise funds to benefit children and help support the fight against childhood cancer." Those participating in the 3-mile walk will walk alongside a cancer survivor whose life has been changed by Jay's World. "Having cancer was the hardest thing I ever had to go though. It has made me who I am today and now I take the positive from this devastating disease to do what I do now to help other people," cancer survivor Jason Napolitano said. Registration is at 9 a.m., the walk begins at 10 a.m.
