The Village of Mineola is about to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime celebration commemorating our 100th year as an incorporated village starting 2006.
Recently, all residents and businesses of Mineola have received a mailing with a complimentary window sticker emblem of the 2006 centennial logo for home or automobile.
The cover of the mailing represents the cover of the 2006 Centennial Journal. This journal, in addition to raising financial support to fund the 2006 events and activities, is a keepsake treasure and historical document featuring photos of Mineola "then and now" as produced by the Mineola Historical Society.
Mineola is not just our village; it is a place where some of our fondest family memories were born out of the community of residents who truly care and look hopefully to the future to make more memories. You are encouraged to recall your memories and have them memorialized in the 2006 Centennial Journal. So please fill out the application you received and return it as soon as possible. In addition, I would encourage you to contact your loved ones and dear friends who have moved away. We would be remiss not to offer them the opportunity to share their memories with us of their time in our village. Moreover, perhaps they can visit and enjoy any of the events next year.
Exciting yearlong plans for events and activities are under way utilizing the time, talent and energy of the committee members, residents and other volunteers outside Mineola. There will be a general meeting at the village hall later this fall to be announced. We hope you will all attend and join us to hear firsthand how we can help make this celebration one we will always remember.
