The Mineola Board of Education filled the high school principal vacancy by naming supervisor of guidance Ed Escobar as the school's new principal. Escobar will succeed Dr. Michael Nagler, who was recently appointed the new deputy superintendent.

Police Task Force Report Could Come Soon
Mineola Mayor Jack M. Martins said at last Wednesday's public meeting of the board of trustees that a report on the feasibility of Mineola starting its own police force could come in either August or September.

Mineola Community Pool Opens 2005 Season
Mayor Jack Martins and the village Board of Trustees joined with members of the Pool and Recreation Board to officially open the 2005 pool season on Saturday, June 18. During the opening ceremony, Mayor Martins thanked the members of the Pool Board for their volunteer efforts each year to ensure that the pool remains an attractive and enjoyable facility for all Mineola residents. Mayor Martins also praised Mineola's employees who worked diligently in recent months to ready the pool for the season. In particular, Mayor Martins thanked Pool Director Dan Kopetic, Recreation Activities Coordinator Marta DeSousa, and pool operator Frank Temperino and their staff for their hard work in preparing the pool so that residents will be able to enjoy the pool during the summer months.
