Village Makes An Exception to Requirement of Parental Sign-Up
Registration for swimming lessons - Session I, which runs from June 28-July 15, and Session II, which runs from July 19-August 5 - at the Mineola Pool will be held one day only on a first come, first served basis. The date is Saturday, June 25 at 8 a.m. at the front gate of the pool.
Originally, in n order to give everyone a fair opportunity, only parents of the child being registered for lessons will be permitted to register their child for lessons. However, because June 25 is also the day of graduation and some families may be on vacation, the village will allow an adult family member, other than parents, to register children based on the following conditions.
* The adult family member (i.e. aunt, uncle, grandparent) must present a letter signed by the parent(s) of the child or children to include:
Name of the adult family member registering child or children
Relationship of adult family member to child or children
Name of child or children
Reason parent is unable to register child or children
* The adult family member registering a child or children must present identification.
* The adult family member registering a child or children must have the leisure pass or passes of the child or children to be registered
* The adult family member may only register a child or children from one family. Registering a child or children from multiple families will not be permitted.
It would be appreciated if parents wishing to use this procedure for registering their children for swim lessons would notify the Mineola Pool Office in advance by contacting 746-0785.
If parents are able to make the registration, they must also have their child's 2005 Leisure Pass present in order to register the child. Once all classes are filled, registration will be closed.
If a child is not registered for a class, they are not able to fill in for a child that is absent or has dropped out. Attendance will be taken at every class.
Due to the change in the American Red Cross criteria, this year's swimming lessons had to be changed in order to comply with their new regulations. Listed are the new levels for swimming lessons:
Level 1 - Introduction to Water Skills (child must be able to stand in 3-foot section of water independently)
Level 2 - Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Level 3 - Stroke Development
Level 4 - Stroke Improvement
Level 5 - Stroke Refinement
Level 6 - Swimming and Skill Proficiency
** Lifeguard Readiness
** Personal Water Safety
** Fitness Swimmer
** Fundamentals of Diving
(These are all different classes for Level 6)
If your child is absent three or more times, they will not pass that level. If you know your child will be unable to attend three or more classes, please do not register your child. This is an American Red Cross regulation that the Village of Mineola is required to enforce.
Adult swimming lesson registration will also take place at the same time. There is a minimum requirement of six adults in order to have a class. All adults who register must have a 2005 Leisure Pass with them. Classes are held on Tuesdays only from 7 to 8 p.m. beginning Tuesday, June 28.
For your convenience, there will be swim instructors present at registration to answer any questions you may have regarding the change in levels and swim lessons.
