The Mineola Board of Education made a wise selection in naming Dr. Michael Nagler as the deputy superintendent to fill the recently created position. Dr. Nagler is young and bright and can bring fresh ideas to the district. Now, the board of education can make it two for two by naming director of guidance Ed Escobar as the new high school principal.

Escobar is familiar with the school and can keep the trend of success established at the high school going. In addition, Escobar is in tune with today's high school students especially in Mineola. Proof could be found at the Mineola High School Athletic Awards Dinner where numerous student-athletes greeted Mr. Escobar, who clearly has the respect of the students in the high school.

In a time when the Mineola School District must cling to its positive achievements, it must cherish the fact that its high school students have been achieving on Regents exams, being accepted into four-year colleges, some of the best in the nation, and contributing to a global society. The board and district should therefore go with an educator who has been there and name Escobar as the next high school principal.

Escobar is intelligent, energetic and a man of integrity who should surely make an excellent high school principal.
