Board of Education Adopts Contingency Budget
Following the proposed budget defeat in May, the majority of the Mineola Board of Education agreed to adopt a contingency budget. However, in order to do so, the board had to cut $1.8 million from its proposed budget. The budget-to-budget increase would be reduced from 5.98 percent to 3.24 percent over the 2004-2005 budget.

There Is Some Good News
The former assistant superintendent for business and finance was indicted. Two referendums and a budget have failed within the past three months. The district seems to be regularly criticized for its per pupil spending. This is life these days at the Mineola School District. But, the district has gotten some good news. The Hampton Street School was recognized recently by the New York State Department of Education as one of the top most improved schools in the state.

The Mineola High School Athletic Booster Club once again sponsored its annual varsity sports dinner to recognize the accomplishments of the student-athletes who have put in many hours of hard work to achieve on the playing fields, courts and tracks.

The Mineola Athletics Varsity Sports Dinner held last Wedneday, June 1 recognized all of Mineola's athletes who have put in hours of hard work and displayed a desire to be the best they can be. But these young men and women are much more than just athletes, they are fine students, many of which are becoming leaders in their communities.
