The Mineola School District Board of Education will hold a hearing on the proposed 2005-2006 budget this Thursday, May 5 at 7 p.m. in the Willis Avenue School cafeteria.

Village Board Passes Budget Unanimously
Last Thursday, the Village of Mineola board of trustees passed a budget for the 2005-2006 fiscal year. The budget, which will be in effect from June 1, 2005 to May 31, 2006, represents an 8.9 percent tax increase over the 2004-2005 budget.

Keeping in Touch with Mineola High School Lax Alumnae
On Sunday, April 24, two of Mineola High School's Girls' Lacrosse Alumnae faced off against each other. Jamie Carter (Class of 2001), playing for Manhattan College's Lady Jaspers, took the field against Allison Carnabuci (Class of 2004), playing for the Red Foxes of Marist College. In a well-played game, Carter and the Lady Jaspers fought back from a four-goal half time deficit to defeat Marist 10-9 in the closing minutes of the game. Both teams will meet each other again in the playoffs.

Mineola Mustang Baseball Team Has a Strong Start
The Mineola High School varsity baseball team opened its season in impressive fashion. The Mustangs rang up a record of 5-2 before ever entering conference play. The 2005 season began on a cold Saturday in March in Levittown. The result was nothing to warm the hearts of the Mustangs or their fans. Division, a team that is always tough, handed Mineola a 5-1 non-league defeat.
