Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy (NY-4) announced the House passed HR 3, The Transportation Equity Act. The legislation included $150,000 for improvements to Station Plaza between Mineola Blvd. and Third Avenue in Mineola.

"This is great news for Mineola," McCarthy said. "These funds will help local businesses attract new customers and improve the overall quality of life for the village."

The bill passed the House by a vote of 417 to 9. The Transportation Equity Act now goes to the US Senate for approval. The Senate is expected to take up the bill in April. HR 3 contained $16 million for projects in the 4th Congressional District.

Funds awarded to Mineola would be used to brick pave the north side of the train station. This project will help continue the Village's revitalization of its downtown area. The improvements made outside the train station will also allow for a safe area for cars to pick up and drop off passengers.
