Board of Ed Expected to Discuss Budget This Thursday
The Mineola School District Board of Education and administration are in the process of putting together a 2005-2006 budget, which will be put in front of the public in May for a vote, that they believe will be fiscally responsible. But before a plan can be put in front of the public that they believe will be palpable, the board is expected to make between $2.5 and $3.5 million in expense side reductions.

Santosus Says Farewell to Board of Trustees
A round of applause went up for Village Trustee Lou Santosus at the March 2 public meeting of the board since it was Santosus' last public meeting as a trustee. The applause was well deserved as Santosus served on the board for a total of 17 years. Besides his service on the board, Santosus' community service is practically unparalleled.

Power Surge for Mineola Power
The motto of the Long Island Junior Soccer League is "building character through soccer." The Mineola Power under 13 girls' team is a living example of that motto. After a spring 2004 season that ended with the team in last place without a victory, the girls regrouped for the fall campaign. The team had always been very solid defensively, but the girls knew they would have to increase their offensive output to win some games.

Wheatley Sophomore Earns Maccabiah Selection
Travis Roher, a sophomore at the Wheatley School, has been selected as a member of the 2005 United States Maccabiah Basketball Junior Team. The team will represent the United States at the 17th World Maccabiah Games, which will be held in Israel this summer from July 10 through July 21. Travis was one of 10 players selected from highly competitive try-outs that were held in Philadelphia and Los Angeles.
